Services Provided

What We Do

The Sanford Poison Center provides the following services to the residents of South Dakota:

Exposure Management

Certified Specialists in Poison Information (CSPI) provide poison exposure assessment and management guidance to both the general public and healthcare professionals across the state. Services are available through a national toll-free number accessible by voice and TTY, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Public and Professional Education

Educational programs are designed to promote awareness and prevention of both unintentional and intentional exposures, as well as to improve patient management. These programs range from Train-the-Trainer initiatives and children’s safety camps to toxicology conferences for healthcare professionals.

Poison Prevention Materials Distribution

Poison prevention brochures, telephone stickers, magnets, and other materials—available in multiple languages—are distributed to the public by mail or online. These materials help prevent exposures, increase awareness, and encourage use of poison control services.
